An Atlanta developer has purchased 22 acres on the western edge of downtown Lakeland, where a mixed-use project is planned.

Carter, which built apartment tower Nine15 in downtown Tampa, said it has purchased the acreage at 608 Prospect St. fronting Lake Wire. The site is near Bonnet Springs Park, a168-acre privately funded park that’s open to the public.

Carter said Monday it is building a mixed-use project on the Lake Wire site in partnership with Hunt Cos. Inc. The first phase will include more than 300 apartments and 15,000 square feet of street-level retail space.

A deed for the transaction has not been filed. Carter said Patterson Real Estate Advisory Group assisted in arranging the construction financing for the project. Citizens Bank is the lender on the project.

David Bunch and Lisa Parks Abberger of Hauger-Bunch Inc. represented the seller in the transaction.
